Platform Bed Plans
Building a platform bed frame is a relatively easy woodworking project for the beginner,
intermediate or expert craftsman. The platform bed style provides a contemporary low
bed frame profile with a sleek design that is sure to enhance your bedroom.
Built low to the ground, a custom platform bed may be constructed of a variety of
wood materials including oak & cherry which are excellent because of their
strength. The platform bed frame is typically built with a center rail and support
for queen, king & california king size beds. The mattress may be supported
by a solid piece of wood secured to the bed frame rails or to wooden slats that
may be cut to cross the bedframe.
Platform Bed Mattress
Because the mattress of a platform bed rests upon the bed frame, a supporting
bed box spring is not needed. A regular bed mattress may be used or alternatively
a futon mattress is often used and ideal to save costs of the bed mattress. Tempurpedic/Memory Foam
Mattresses are an excellent mattress to consider as well as they provide excellent support
without the need of a supporting box spring mattress.
